Water Fuel Cells to power your car?

Do Water Fuel Cells Really Work, Or Are They Just A Scam?

We all know that water is a natural resource that is abundant, inexpensive and easily-accessible. As water nourishes our bodies, quenches our thirst, and is used for growing plants, vegetables and other important produce, it is also currently being viewed as the next best alternative to fossil fuels, in running our cars and other vehicles. The current fuel crisis is forcing automakers to speed up research on the development and production of water fuel cells, which should one day power up the engines of cars and other vehicles.

What's With Water That Makes It A Nice Fuel Alternative?

Automobile designers and engineers say that the molecular makeup of water makes it a viable alternative to using fossil fuels, because its molecular structure is generally composed of two atoms hydrogen and one atom oxygen. Whenever the molecules of this natural element are divided into its component atoms and oxidized for use as fuel afterwards, the end-result should be the development of an energy source that is predicted to be two-and-a-half times more powerful and efficient than gasoline or diesel. Water fuel cell-powered engines also emit water vapor, which makes it a much cleaner and pollution-free alternative to today's gas-guzzling and carbon monoxide-emitting vehicles.

How Water Fuel Cells Crank Up A Car's Engine?

According to alternative fuel advocates, a water fuel cell engine operates in the same manner as a standard car battery. But, unlike standard lead or acid-based batteries, a water fuel cell should not run out of energy or further require the need for constant recharging. Water fuel cells get their energy in the form of electricity and heat, as long as they are fueled regularly with, water of course! A water fuel cell's system generally consists of two electrodes which are sandwiched around an electrolyte. As oxygen goes in an electrode and hydrogen passes through the other, it then generates electricity, water and heat. And since water fuel cells considerably rely on chemistry rather than on standard combustion, the resulting emissions created are way below that made by conventional gasoline or diesel-fed engines, helping the planet breath much easier and aid in reducing the threat of global warming as well.
